We are sad to announce the passing of League Vice-President and Old Parkonian Roy Bellman on Wednesday. Roy was an outstanding centre half for the Old Parkonians 1st XI playing over 600 games. In later years he gave stalwart service to the club and the League Management Committee. Roy bridged the gap between the generations and was as comfortable with his own peers as he was with people twenty or thirty years younger. In all, his involvement in our football extended to six decades.
Roy served as Match Secretary for Old Parkonians from 1968 until 1982, joining the League Management Committee in 1978. He took on the role of Results Secretary in 1978, continuing for 21 years, executing the role with efficiency and respect. During the 1980s he also filled the roles of Assistant Secretary and Referees Secretary. Upon stepping down as Results Secretary in 1999, he was made a Vice-President.
Roy will be greatly missed by the SAL family and the Old Parkonians in particular. A great servant to our football and a wonderful person to know, he is in every way a giant of our game. Our thoughts go out to his family and friends.
Funeral details will be posted once known.
